Just testing out the WordPress app for Android, so I’ll keep it short.

I’ve officially switched to using Google Chrome! I installed it today because there was an extension for Skritter that was only available for Chrome. Actually I have yet to install that extension because I’ve been busy getting Chrome to do everything that Firefox does for me. Since Google has allowed developers to build extensions for [...]

So, Google has finally had enough of the hostile business environment in China and has decided to leave. Actually, Google gave the CCP an ultimatum (one that the CCP would never accept) which is to allow Google to operate uncensored in China or they will leave. This is such an explosive move by Google that [...]

Lately I’ve been doing a bit of Rails development for an important project at work. While I really enjoy working with the Ruby programming language and Rails (and ActiveRecord) can be huge time savers, I occasionally find myself wishing I was working with Java instead. I have several major beefs with Ruby on Rails, as [...]

Recently introduced to the world of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and I must say it is fairly awesome. It’s interesting how Amazon has gone from selling books, to selling everything, to becoming a computational resource utility company. Currently getting a grip on the following technologies: Elastic Cloud Computing (EC2) – This is “The Cloud.” Amazon [...]

Lenovo Thinkpad T500

Wow, I really didn’t expect it to happen but I was able to convince IT to replace the abomination that is the Lenovo “Thinkpad” SL500 with a real Thinkad, the T500. Here are some notes on what I had to do to get everything working under Linux (Ubuntu 8.10): First off you won’t even be [...]

Last weekend I attended the Beijing Perl Workshop. It was actually my first time attending such a workshop and my first time giving a speech at one. Unfortunately I felt my speech train wrecked (some technical problems with my laptop followed by my own stuttering and incoherence). Next time I’ll do better, I promise! Overall [...]

Social Networking Galore!

Written by cdavaz. 1 comment Posted in: Technology

I’ve been trying to keep all the social networking sites that I have an account on up-to-date. I actually don’t have much, just Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and my blog here. I’ve activated Twitter integration between my blog and twitter and between facebook and twitter so hopefully that will help keep things tidy.

Twitter

Written by cdavaz. No comments Posted in: Technology

Today I joined Twitter! I thought it was funny to have a blog and then to have something like a mini-blog in between actual blog posts but I thought I would give it a try anyway. Actually it lets me look back on my day and size up what I have done. Maybe you would [...]

Perl 6

Recently I have been making some (minor) contributions to one of the Perl 6 implementations being actively developed. It’s called Rakudo and it is the Perl 6 implementation that targets the Parrot virtual machine. If you haven’t heard about Parrot, please check it out. It is a register-based virtual machine specifically designed to handle highly [...]

Audio Books

Written by cdavaz. 2 comments Posted in: Books, Chinese, Politics, Technology

Recently I’ve been listening to (mp3) audio books. First “The Audacity of Hope” by Barack Obama and now “The Diamond Age” by Neal Stephenson. Despite its apparent appeal as an alternative source of edification for those with meager attention-spans, it has never really occured to me to delve into them. I suppose the lull in [...]
